How can I organize old bills without a filing cabinet?

Posted in File Organization on April 1st, 2010 by admin – 7 Comments

I’d like to come up with some other way to organize and store my old bills other than a filing cabinet. I hate how they always seem to get jumbled in those stupid hanging folders and everything is so crammed. It’s hard to actually find things when I do need to see them. Any ideas?

How can I convert a hanging file cabinet (has side rails only) to a drawer-like system for more storage option

I bought a hanging file cabinet that only has side file to hang file folders from. If i want to store anything aside from file folders I’m out of luck. Anything i can insert or do to change from a hanging file draw to a standard box-like draw?

How do you organize and remember your coupons?

Posted in File Organization on April 10th, 2010 by admin – 5 Comments

I do the coupon clipping in our family, and we have one of those filing folder things – the kind with the different section and tabs. I would organize it by the month the coupons expire, but it isn’t working very well…there has to be a more efficient way to organize them! Any suggestions?
Also, how to you remember to use your coupons – I always either forget what we have, or leave the packet at home.
Thanks in advance!

If my apartment is infested with bugs & rats are outside eating our stuff, who can we call to file a complaint?

Posted in File Organization on September 6th, 2010 by admin – 6 Comments

We have been in our new apt in La Jolla, CA (very nice area) for about 2 months. We pay 00 a month. At first we noticed a lot of bugs in our kitchen (little roaches)…when we called the manager, she acted surprised and had a company come spray. When the guy came to spray, he said this apartment had been sprayed 3 times already. So the manager lied to us. After he sprayed, we still noticed bugs all IN OUR DISHWASHER gross! Anyways, we complained again, got a new dishwasher which is now broken, but the bugs are mostly gone…we still see about 3 a day in our kitchen.

To make matters worse, we just noticed that our storage boxes outside are being eaten by rats. There is rat poop in the back corner of our patio…it chewed a hole in our surfboard bag, and chewed up xmas lights in one of the boxes.

I am going to call the manager again tomorrow, but if she refuses to do anything or is rude about it….who can I call to make a complaint? The health department?? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

    Small, decorative, storage boxes?

Posted in File Organization on August 30th, 2010 by admin – 2 Comments

I got a cute small box made of cardboard at a yard sale a few years ago. It’s about the size of a shoebox and has butterflies and ladybugs and stuff on it. It has a little slot in the front I guess for filing/labeling purposes. Does anyone know where I can find these, either an online website or an actual store? Thank you! Also, what are they called?

Best, Easiest, Most Attractive Way to Seal Windows? Bugs & Drafts & Inefficient heat/cool is driving me nuts.?

Posted in File Organization on August 23rd, 2010 by admin – 2 Comments

Long story short… I can’t find an apartment in the City of Chicago that has windows that actually do their job. My new apartment, and by "New" I mean my first summer here, is owned by a Polish guy so, surprise surprise, he hired unskilled Polish Labor to "Upgrade" the windows, do the tile-work, etc. etc. etc. which means that nothing was done right and blind chimps might have been able to do a better job. (I’m from Arizona, I can tell Skilled Latino Labor from Unskilled Polish Labor from a mile away…)

    So anyways…

I’m using the back bedroom as a den and put some planters in the window for herbs but the windows are so poorly installed that it is the wild freaking kingdom in there.

I was able to put "Great Stuff" foam in around the wall-mounted Air-Conditioner to stop the bees from coming in but now I have spider mites on my plants and when I go in there in the morning, the bugs are, literally, just climbing in through the window frame.

We are not "Dirty" people and there is nothing in that back room but file cabinets, storage, and the two planters that I’m going to empty anyways so there is no reason but temperature for the bugs to be coming in that window.

So I want to take plastic sheeting, seal the windows, then put up curtains so I can’t see that there is plastic.

In the past, I used Translucent Sheeting for privacy but I have no need of that here and would like to use clear plastic to seal but I’m not sure how to do it in a way that won’t hurt the walls like the packing tape and gaffers tape I used at my last apartment, when I pretty much WANTED to do damage to the walls around the windows.

I like it here and want to keep things as nice as possible.

How do you seal the windows, like most people here do in winter, without harming the frame?

Thank you very much for any help you can provide!
I searched 3M Window Sealing Kits and now I understand how it is done!

It seems so simple in hind sight after learning about this product.

No’Brainer… I know… But sometimes the obvious is too big to grasp until someone tells you specifically what to look for.

    So I need:
    1. Double Sided Window Tape
    2. Shrink Plastic
    3. Hair Dryer

I’m going to ask if there is anything thicker I can use to help with insulation but if not, I will go with the kids.

    THANK YOU for your answer!

To whom in Sarasota FL might I report potentially hazardous living conditions?

We recently moved into an apartment complex. Our upstairs neighbors are in possession of numerous cats, a few of which are kept out on their balcony permanently. The odor of cat urine outside makes our lanai completely unusable, and it’s beginning to permeate throughout the rest of the house. We’ve filed several complaints with management, but nothing has been done. The ASPCA has also been called to no avail. Is there some other local organization I could turn to for this matter, such as the department of health?
