You say, "I don’t have too much stuff, just limited space."
That is one of the most common misconceptions when it comes to clutter. Your "stuff" needs to be limited to the amount of space you have to store it. If your have more stuff than space – you have too much stuff.
I love to cook and I know how wonderful it is to have the exact right pan for the exact right job. You just have to weigh your frustrations.
Would it be easier to make do with a different pan and part with one to clear your clutter? Or would you be less frustrated having a not-so-perfect storage system in order to keep all of your pots and pans?
If you decide to keep all of your pots and pans – I am sure there is a storage solution. You might just need to think outside the box a little bit.
Can you using a pot rack to hang them?
Can you use plastic storage tubs to store like items together? For instance, let’s say you put all of your baking pans in one tote, all of your pans in another tote and all of your pots in a third tote. Do you have enough room in your cabinet to set all three totes side by side so that when you need to get to a baking pan, all you have to move is two totes instead of 15 pots and pans?
Is there room in your kitchen for a bakers rack that you could use to store your pots and pans?
Is there a room or a closet close enough to your kitchen that you could use for storing your pots and pans?
Is there another cabinet in your kitchen that could be better organized, making more room so that you can separate your pots and pans between two cabinets rather than trying to fit them all in one?
Thing long and hard about whether you need to really keep all of them – keeping the correct definition of clutter in mind.
Then think outside the box and I am sure you will come up with the perfect solution!
Good luck.
Maybe you just cant get them in the cabinet. We hang our pots and pans underneath one of ours, will yours fit there? You could build a shelf if worst comes to worst.
I had the same problem with my pots, depending on how much space you have in your kitchen and how high your cieling is you can get a rack to hang them on. I took the cheap route and actually got the rack from a drug store that they hung the wind chimes on in the spring. I just picked up some s hooks from lowes and bam i had a rack for my pots and pans for just a few bucks. they very in size but all the racks i’ve seen at drugstores this year have a good design for hanging pots and pans. EDIT ceiling height refers to the racks you attach to ceiling not the one i picked up from the drug store its not THAT tall lol
I have the same problem, they make the cupboards too deep and low to the ground. I try to put most of what I can in the drawer under my stove.
I put my two pots that I use the most in the cupboard and one set of nesting mixing bowls.
All the rest like cake pans, casserole dishes, etc I put in the shelves in my pantry. If you don’t have a pantry maybe you could put the things like these that aren’t used everyday in a higher up cabinet like one where you would put dishes, if you have an extra cabinet.
I once converted an old childrens dresser.I put a cutting board on top and the pots and pans in the drawers. I painted it to match my cupboards.
While I’m lucky to have a pot cabinet with large pull out shelves, the trick is still to nest things in smaller things so you make the best use of space. This works well for pots and pans since they’re usually all different sizes. The lids are in a lid rack sized from smallest in the front to largest at the back. The very biggest lids (taller than the cabinet shelf space) are upside down either in their pot or in my wok.
We don’t have much cabinet space as well. I just bought brass hooks and screwed them in over top of the stove (and window) they hang out of the way and free up cabinet space. also they arrange nicely by size. took about 30mins and 4 dollars to do.
try hanging some stuff in a decorative way.
only keep things in the kitchen that you use. box everything else and save it or give it away. put things in order, like drinking glasses and dishes close to the frig and pots and pans close to the stove. plastic ware together and cleaning products under the sink. food in pantry or shelves you have chosen. clothes in drawer and silverware and other utensils in drawer or utensils in container close to stove. make sure the container doesn’t melt , use metal or pottery or something similar.
Things You’ll Need:
Appliance Barns
Drawer Liners
Drawer Organizers
Airtight Containers
Kitchen Organizers
Knife Racks
Plastic Storage Containers
Silverware Holders
Spice Racks
Step1
Go through your kitchen and discard anything you don’t use, along with any food, spices or medicines that are beyond their expiration dates.
Step2
Take everything out of your cupboards and drawers, and wash the insides with warm soapy water. Rinse, let dry and replace cupboard and drawer liners.
Step3
Store pots, pans and cooking utensils near the stove, nesting the pots and pans together to conserve space.
Step4
Store dishes and silverware near your eating area and/or dishwasher. Use racks and silverware holders to maximize use of space.
Step5
Be sure that children are able to reach items they use. Put things they should not use – such as sharp tools, alcohol and cleaning chemicals – well out of reach.
Step6
Alphabetize your spices and keep them near the stove on a spice rack or in a nearby cupboard on a revolving rack.
Step7
Remove large and seldom-used items from countertops and store them in a cupboard. For appliances that you use often, consider adding an ‘appliance barn,’ which can store toasters, blenders, juicers and other appliances on the countertop without clutter.
Step8
Store food items that you use on a daily basis in accessible spots, and store all like food items together – for example, tea and sugar.
Step9
Put food that may become infested with insects into sturdy plastic containers and seal them.
Step10
Use drawer dividers to organize utensils.
