Is there anywhere in Florissant, MO that sells cheap furniture?

Posted in Organize Home Office on June 4th, 2010 by admin – 2 Comments

I’m trying to organize and break more into this home that I live in with my boyfriend. However, we’re still 1/2 in boxes, some of our rooms are full of them (and dog hair) we don’t have any storage devices– heck, we don’t even have a vacuum cleaner or a dishwasher.

Since we’re low on money (we’re all young- just out of home with our parents, and own a house…so no spare moneys for us) I’m looking for cheap furniture places. None of those old, stuffy styles (ie, no wood items, nothing fancy- minimalist is preferable). I recently found out there’s no IKEA out here- I didn’t know, since I’m not from around here. Is there anywhere with furniture under a hundred bucks? We’re looking for a desk/bookshelf/cabinet/CD organizer with drawers that can hold up a mini fridge, a buncha books, two laptops, and fit in a small room. As well as an affordable office chair. Anything over a hundred bucks is out of the question entirely, and we can’t drive out of the state or really out of the city at all since gas is too expensive; we also have small cars.

Along with this, the place will need to contain storage devices (cheap plastic ones), mats, cleaning supplies, something to grab for lunch nearby, and mini shelves to arrange our shoes since we use one huge closet. Thanks!

Am I Alone in that people think I am Arrogant?

I am set in my ways or am I just organized?. I want the towels folded the right way. I ensure that the glasses in the dishwasher are the same on the same side. My shirts are all folded the same way. My jeans are all hanging in the closet by size. My shoes are lined up like soldiers. I have my pots and pans in the cabinet by large to small (makes sense to me for space). I have my paper files according to topic.

Am I being overbearing? Or am I being organized?

Help! I am tired of my messy house, what are some ideas?

Posted in How To Organize Pantry on April 23rd, 2010 by admin – 21 Comments

I have three little kids, ages 4, 2 and 3 months – I am also an awful cleaner. I have always been bad at cleaning, but with the kids it is impossible.

What are your quick and easy to adapt solutions for keeping a cleaner house? It’s not that I’m not trying, I think I’m just trying the wrong ways.

Biggest problem areas:
Laundry – I do 1-2 loads of laundry a day, one of cloth diapers and one of clothes. The room is a perpetual mess, and so are our rooms around dressers, etc. I am thinking we might just have too many clothes and need to scale back, but am not sure how to do that. I tried once and had to reclaim clothes so we didn’t run out.

Kitchen – no matter how hard I try, the counters are always full of stuff, papers, food stuff, etc. We do not have a pantry right now, and I am convinced when we are able to put one in (after we get our housing credit) this problem will get better. But I could use help in the mean time.

Office/ school room – I am totally lost in junk mail, mail I have to take care of, loose papers, papers I want to keep but don’t have a place for, papers for my preschoolers (I am home-schooling them, so we have a lot of printables). Sadly, I have paper trays full of bottles and not one paper item in them. How do I organize so I actually use what I have?

We are eliminating clutter. I have the boys pick up their toys every night before bed, while I pick up other things. I run the dishwasher every night, no matter how full (I usually have to do a few dishes on top of this, which I get to if I can).

It seems no matter how hard I try, I just can’t get past that perpetually VERY messy stage. I would like a nice, normal mess that is associated with having preschoolers.

We do stay-at-home, which means the house is a lot messier naturally than it would be if people were not around for most of the day.

I am most interested in answers from people like me, who have high, lofty intentions, but can never make them stick. Preferably people who have overcome that obstacle and now have some organization and cleanliness in their lives.

Thanks in advance! I hope to get one or two ideas that I can incorporate.
