Helpful TIme Coping Technique For Working Moms

When on the go Moms try to keep track of everything it can prove to be a challenge in most cases, especially for Moms who also have to put in time at the office every week.

A beneficial time management solution for a Mom who has many things to keep track of or has a difficulty remembering it all, is to make use of a personal planner.

When choosing a planner it is important to acquire one that is a best fit for you. There are a variety of planners available to select from, some are by week, by day or by hour. Depending on how many events and appointments you typically have during the week, you will want to come to a decision on which one will have adequate time slots and a nice layout. You do not have to obtain a high-priced one that is leather bound with extra features you do not really need; keep it frugal. There are many reasonably priced options out there, Dollar Stores often carry them and every so often you can even get a complimentary weekly planner from your dentist’s office near the end of the year.

In addition, be sure to select one that is to some extent compact so you can fit it into your handbag and take it with you on the go in case something comes up at the final instant and you have to schedule an appointment or get-together. Having your planner right at your finger tips will also prevent you from committing to something then realizing that you already had a prior engagement that day.

Another very good idea is to also have a month-to-month wall calendar hanging in a main room, kitchen or hallway where scheduled appointments, meetings, school events and other activities are within easy view and help as reminders for each person in the household. The more you jot things down, the less you have to try and remember things.

When setting aside a block of time in your planner always specify what the event is and at what time of day it is. Additionally , you will need to set aside sufficient time, allowing a cushion for unforeseen delays, that way you are not rushed before your next scheduled appointment. It would also be a good idea to put an end time when you expect to be finished so that you stay on track and not waste any time.

Be certain to also schedule an appointment for yourself. Set aside a block of time each day, at least one hour so that you can give yourself some relaxation time. Block this time in your planner PRIOR to scheduling everything else, this way you do not run the possibility of getting stressed with no time to have a rest. If something comes up where it takes place at the same time as your down time, see to it that you schedule the event for another day or time, if that is not possible, then, and only then, should you reschedule your down time for a another time that day. You should never skimp on your rest time as you will end up getting run down and not have the energy to keep up with the rest of your busy schedule.

Always have a list of tasks that you need done, keep it tucked within your planner, adding to the list as things come up. At the end of each week you can look at your list and plan your upcoming week by scheduling in the tasks to be done in your available time blocks. As these tasks get completed, cross them off the list one by one, this will serve as a motivator and also keep you on track.

As a hard-working Mom you can benefit from this time management skill and once you get into the habit of using a planner on a daily basis you will discover that you will never forget another occasion, be late for another appointment, have errands left undone or not have any time for yourself.

What do you do when you just SUCK at time management?

Posted in Time Management on June 26th, 2010 by admin – 7 Comments

I’m in college and I’m a really good student. I do well on my tests and papers. I’ve always been an A student. But since I got to college, I struggle to keep my GPA at a 3.0. Why? I’m so unorganized as far as time management. I try so hard to stop procrastinating but for some reason I can’t. I miss a lot of class because I can never get up early in the morning, so even though I score really high on my exams, my grades come down because my attendance is poor and sometimes I don’t hand my homework in because I oversleep and miss class! I know it sounds stupid but this is a serious problem. I think it’s because in high school, my mom used to spoil me and wake me up when it was time to get ready for school. Now that I don’t have that luxury, and being a night person, I find it so difficult to get up for class. I’m always up really late doing my work and studying. Any suggestions on how to break this awful cycle before I ruin my life??
